About Monterey
Monterey is a city located in Central California, on Monterey Bay, along the Pacific coast. It is well known for its rich history of resident artists, beginning in the late 19th century, and for its, perhaps, most popular attractions – Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, Fisherman’s Wharf and the annual Monterey Jazz Festival.
This beautiful seaside city was California’s first state capital. It was first settled in 1770, around a Franciscan mission, and between 1774 and 1846 was a Spanish colonial capital, afterwards being captured by the US naval forces.
